Born in the North East, songwriter and producer Mr Matthew Fisher has relocated to Manchester where he initiated his own solo project in 2021. Both on stage and on record, Fisher indulges in the absurdity of life, often wearing swimming goggles and mad hats on stage, which has grown him a loyal local following.
This feeling of bizarre freedom is reflected in his music too as his tracks are peppered with vibrant instrumentation incorporating elements of funk and electro-psychedelia into his loose indie offerings.
Vocally, Fisher leads his tracks with a slightly laid back swagger that sees tracks like ‘Micky’ ring of urban anthem makers such as Jamie T while tracks like ‘No Drama’ pack a quiet sophistication more in tune with Franz Ferdinand.
Described by Fisher himself, his recent single ‘The Cash’ is about things not living up to expectations and is like bringing “that lego set you got home from the toy shop only to find it was half the size!”. Mastered by Graeme Lynch at Two Zero Nine Mastering, the single has a playful arrogance, blending together punchy vocal lines delivered with slick melody and more novelty sounding synth tones that provide a more upbeat balance.
With a number of hometown shows in the works, Mr Matthew Fisher is continuing to build a name for himself in the North West scene. It looks like it won’t be long before he starts gaining national attention.
