As one of the most artistically inclined songwriters in the Indie and Alt Pop worlds right now, Canty’s music is never without creative depth. His dystopian ballads create lucid soundscapes that completely absorb the listener and entrance you in a glimmering, sonic world. The recent releases ‘Mercy Street’, ‘Boyfriend’, ‘Girlfriend’ and ‘Love Song Suicide’ are no different, luring you in with a hypnotic melancholia and eerie sonic atmosphere.
The limited 7” vinyl of ‘Mercy Street’, mixed by Tarek Musa (Spring King, Circa Waves, The Big Moon) and mastered by Graeme Lynch at Two Zero Nine Mastering (Miles Kane, The Coral, Ladytron), acts as a love letter to Liverpool. The eclectic instrumentation is warm and comforting yet also full of an unsettling suspense while Canty recites poetic spoken word, making for a Baxter Dury esc sound. Meanwhile, the three-track EP ‘Boyfriend/Girlfriend’ is an artistic depiction of a dysfunctional couple; the battle of masculine & feminine inside the straight acting cis male.
Canty’s live performances have also garnered great attention, including a memorable set at Left Of The Dial and an EP launch at Skewed Studios.
